So the day has finally come. At 2:30 p.m. we checked into the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Honolulu for an induction. 4 days overdue, having contractions, 1 cm dilated, 40% effaced and ready to go. At 4 they started Skye on Cervadil, to thin out her uterus. At 5:30 am they removed the Cervadil and Skye was now 2 cm and 50%. At 12,noon, they inverted a Foley Bulb...Ouch. (one the one of the nurses was shocked that Skye did it without pain medication). An hour later they started her on Pitocin, a contraction inducing drug. At 3 pm the Bulb came out and Skye was now at 4 cm. For a little while the steady contractions were not too bad as they kept increasing the doses of Pitocin. By 11:00 pm the contractions were, on a scale of 1 to 10, a 12 according to Skye, they were 1-1.5 minutes apart. She was so exhausted and they were so intense that Skye was going into shock with each contraction (violent shaking, sweating, etc). So Skye decided to get some medicine to manage the pain. They tried Fentinol to relax her, but it wore off after only 25 minutes so she finally decided, at 12:30 am after 33 hours of labor, to get an epidural. The nurse that gave it to Skye was amazing. Even after Skye could still move around walk and feel when the contractions happened but there was no pain just pressure. At 3 am they put Skye on oxygen due to baby's heart rate dropping. At 3:30 am her water broke, at 5 am Skye was 9 cm and at 6:10 started pushing. And after about 40 hours of labor, at 8:08 am, Reagan Lowry entered the world at 7 lbs 1 oz and 19 inches long. For the next 2 days Skye recouped from low blood pressure, anemia, exhaustion and a class 4 laceration or rip which needed some repair. And Reagan had Jaundice.
